It is estimated that 1 in 6 of us will experience a common mental health problem. There are effective treatments for mental disorders such as depression and anxiety yet many of us most in need do not receive treatment and support.

Barriers to mental health care include social, financial, and psychological factors that may prevent or delay an individual from accessing and/or receiving mental health services.

For technology to bridge the gap to treatment, mMental Health interventions must be designed and developed with such barriers in mind to ensure that interventions are:

  • Accessible to different user groups

  • Designed to address gaps in treatment

  • Developed from theory and research

  • Flexible, personalised

  • Effective in real world settings

  • Safe, secure and ethical

  • Designed with users to meet their needs
